VMdev.net

VMware's Advanced Developer Portal

vmdev.net is the home of advanced virtualization development programs working with VMware's world class R&D organization. Commercial companies and academic researchers work on projects spanning all VMware technologies and products, including VMware vSphere, vCloud, and View, influencing VMware's future technology directions. Developers have access to source code (source access programs only), certification test suites, advanced documentation, mailing lists for direct contact with VMware engineers, advanced/experimental development projects, and other resources. Check back often for new developer programs announcements.

VMware Workbench is the next generation development and testing platform for integration of customer or partner products into VMware vSphere, View, and vCloud. Workbench incorporates the Eclipse Integrated Development Environment (IDE), and includes VMware specific plugins to optimize and accelerate development and testing against VMware platforms. Additional plugins are available to support specific products and technologies, including development kit and certification plugins.
VMware's Server Programs are open to qualified OEM and ODM server vendors who want to certify their servers for listing on the VMware Certified Compatibility Guide or customize ESX for their systems. Qualified partners have access to the VMware Workbench Server Certification plugin to setup and execute server certification test suites, and to automatically submit test results to VMware.
VMware's Storage Programs are open to qualified storage array vendors who want to certify their arrays for listing on the VMware Certified Compatibility Guide, or to get involved in advanced storage systems development projects. Qualified partners have access to the VMware Workbench Storage Certification plugin to setup and execute storage certification test suites, and to automatically submit test results to VMware. Partners can also get access to the Pluggable Storage Architecture (PSA) APIs along with access to the VMware Workbench PSA Development Kit plugin.
VMware's I/O Vendor Partner (IOVP) Program is open to qualified IHVs interested in building, qualifying, and certifying drivers and devices for VMware ESX. IOVP partners have access to the VMware Workbench Device Driver Kit (DDK) and I/O Device Certification test suite plugins, including a build environment (sample drivers, build tools, and code scanner), a debugging tool set, documentation (reference/man pages, Porting Guide, and User Guide), and test suites. Through the IOVP Program, partners can certify devices and device drivers, and automatically submit certification test results to VMware.
VMware's CIM Provider Program is open to qualified OEMs and IHVs interested in developing CIM providers for VMware ESX. CIM Provider partners have access to the VMware Workbench CIM Provider Development Kit (CIM PDK) plugin, including a build environment, test framework, and other tools. Partners interact with VMware's R&D engineers to create and test CIM providers and to influence future enhancements to VMware's CIM infrastructure.
The vCloud Program offers VMware partners with technical consulting and project management coordination from VMware R&D in their efforts to integrate with vCloud. VMware vCloud provides the interface, automation, and management feature set to allow enterprises and service providers to supply VMware vSphere resources as a web-based service. Users of VMware vCloud can serve themselves by creating, using, and managing virtual machines and vApps, while IT maintains control and bills for usage.
The VMsafe/vNetwork APIs Program is open to selected ISVs who want to have integrated access to the ESX networking stack to enhance network security or provide other networking services. Qualified partners have access to the VMware Workbench VMsafe/vNetwork API development kit plugin, test suites, and documentation. Partners interact with VMware's R&D engineers to create and test networking filter modules.
VMware's Site Recovery Manager (SRM) Program is open to qualified partners interested in integrating with VMware's site recovery solution. SRM partners have access to VMware's SRM APIs and development tools, and work with VMware's R&D organization to integrate their products and to influence future enhancements.
The VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Thin Client Certification Program offers thin client device manufacturers an in-house self-certification process to achieve VMware Certified status for their thin client devices. Partners who have successfully achieved VMware Certified status can leverage the VMware Certified logo in their marketing and sales efforts and gain the right to redistribute the VMware Virtual Desktop Manager ("VDM") Client software.
The VMware Academic Program (VMAP) is a comprehensive, membership-based program designed for the academic community. The program accelerates instruction and research in the rapidly expanding area of virtualized infrastructure by providing faculty and students from qualifying academic institutions with access to virtualization technologies most widely used in commercial production environments. VMAP members can get VMware software licenses and source code access to key VMware technology for advanced research and instruction at no charge.
